I went through a number of alternative sketches before I came up with this version of the jumping cowboy. Most of the others looked a bit more natural, or at least less suicidal, but this one captured the movement and desperation I was after. The raised right leg especially, with its Will Eisneresque cartoony quality, really did it for me. I see it as a case of illustrating what "should" happen, rather than what "would".
