This started life as a seascape, but quickly developed a monster. As often happens, I did a tight sketch for the creature, then painted directly onto the canvas without drawing first. As you can see if you compare to the original sketch, this technique works pretty well, and sometimes it's quicker. It also has the advantage of allowing some "happy accidents" into the painting that might not have developed otherwise.
